Projects
1. In the mask projects we all made a mask and an essay. The essay was about socialization and what is is and then we made a mask reflecting how we each are or had been socialized.
2. Essay
Socialization is when people or groups of people are told they need to act a certain way. “Girls must have long hair and boys must have short hair.” “ White people are the best.” These are just a couple examples of negative socialization. Socialization can also occur when there is only one group of people. Socialization can be positive and it can be negative. Positive socialization would be things like going to school, working hard in school, an other things. Negative socialization is anything that has a negative effect on people. For example “people” must want to go to college and enjoy school. This could be considered positive socialization but it depends on the full effect. For example it could keep brilliant people from getting jobs and helping the world be a better place because some people don't need college. It causes people to be a certain way. The way we are raised and the people we are around are what shape us. In a different time and place we would be totally different people. Some common targets of socialization are people of different gender, religion, race, body type, and beliefs. Agents are those who not always knowingly cause socialization, these people could be family, friends, workers, and everyday people.
This mask represents the ways in which I have been socialized. Some of the ways have been that boys should be good at math. I must fit in to society and like regular school with studying and that I must go to college and must like sports. I have been mainly socialized in these ways but mostly in school. The school=:) represents this. The 4+4=male represents that boys are mainly pushed toward math and how I have been pushed. The people walking one way and the person blocking the person trying to walk the other way represents how I and how others are forced to be the same as everybody lease to to do the same things. The dollar bill represents being pushed to do what makes more money not what is fun. Lastly the smile drawn on the mouth represents how we are told to act happy. Lastly the dividing lines on the mask represent how I am pushed to act differently in different environments.
3. Reflection
1. What am I most proud of about my mask and why. I am most proud of my ideas and of my artwork. I am proud of these things because I worked hard. I put thought into my work and much effort. I am proud because I spent time on my mask and because I believe it represents me.
2. Quote the section of your essay that you are most proud of and describe, in detail, why I am proud of it.

I like the way I decided to give two examples of common socialization.
3. What will I remember from this project? Why?
I will remember making my mask. I will remember symbols and painting. I believe this is something I will remember for a long time because of how much it affects me in society. These things cause billions of people every day to make decisions, do things, and act on there decisions. These things are what shape us as human beings and what make culture what it is. I will remember this because to not is to forget humanity.
4. Which habit of heart and mind do I need to remember next project to get better at project-based learning? What do I need to improve and how will that habit help me? I need to improve on advocacy. I believe that to truly get better at projects I need to ask questions. Asking questions helps me because without asking there is no way to know what exactly to do. This leaves me guessing at what to do which could cause me to do something not as well or not the right way. By improving on this the habit will help me do well in school in all classes, do better work with quality, and ask more questions.
